One of the great American film noir movies has been remade!
Based on the 1946 novel of the same name by William Lindsay Gresham, this new movie from director Guillermo del Toro promises to be an even darker version of this "be careful what you ask for" stark tale- with quite an ending!
Bradley Cooper stars as the former carnival worker who becomes the super-slick and successful Stanton Carlisle, nightclub mentalist.
He gains his fame using the mind-reading code he learned from his girlfriend, a carnival mindreader. But greed gets the better of him, success goes to his head, and you just know bad things are coming! Though Stanton Carlisle thinks he is in control, he meets his match in a psychiatrist (Cate Blanchett’s Dr. Lilith Ritter) who is even more of a sociopath than he is.
Sounds utterly delicious!
If you haven't read Gresham's novel, at least watch the classic 1947 film version, starring a very chilling Tyrone Power.
The Fox Searchlight Pictures film is scheduled to be released on December 17, 2021.
