Michael Crane was an Irish magician who emigrated to the United States in 1885. Billed as "The Great Crane", he was one of the many travelling magicians operating along the East Coast during the late 1800's to early 1900's.
The March 19, 1908 issue of the Washington Post newspaper has a brief and positive review of his act.
His son, Larry Crane, got his start as his father's assistant in the Substitution Trunk trick. Larry Crane went on to become a top vaudeville headlining magician.
