The Floating Light Bulb
THESE TRICKS REQUIRE NO SKILL
Just a bit of rehearsal, of course!
Woody Allen's THE FLOATING LIGHT BULB is about a Brooklyn family in the 1940s.
One of the characters is Paul, a shy boy who longs to be a professional magician.
In the play, Paul performs a number of magic effects, including the Floating Lightbulb, Billiard Balls, Linking Rings, Appearing Cane, playing cards, silk handkerchiefs, Wonder Silk Box, Cut and Restored Rope, Change Bag, Cut and Restored Necktie, Electric Deck, Egg Bag, Milk Pitcher, Lota Vase, Multiplying Bottles, Multiplying Cigarettes and Cane To Flowers.
See below for our list of these magic tricks.
The Floating Lightbulb itself can be simulated using a real bulb (an oversized one is best) hooked to a thread.
The Billiard Balls or Multiplying Balls do take some skill.
We recommend using the Vernet Climax Balls, in which the balls are already fixed in place, to simulate having skill with the balls.
The Cut and Restored Necktie can be simulated with two identical neckties, one cut in half.
The Multiplying Cigarettes can be performed with a cigarette fixed to the Coin Catcher gimmick.
See another video of the gimmick when it is attached to a flower.
A substitute for the Cane To Flowers would be using the Vanishing Cane, which you can change to a silk handkerchief at the end.
