A curious trick with a twist! It looks impossible- but it's simple! If you can hold the disk, you can do this trick!
Based on an optical principle called Chinese Compass, this one works on the principle that we see what we expect to see.
You can present this as part of a story that you create, or you can make it straightforward. The idea is that you show a disk with a question mark on one side, and a clock hand on the other. The images are permanently printed on each side- they can't move.
You start by showing the question mark, right side up, and the clock hand, pointed straight up to the 12 o'clock position. You turn the disk around again so that the question mark is facing the spectator.Ask the spectator to call out a specific hour on the clock.Instantly, you turn the disk to show that the fixed hand is now pointing at the chosen hour! And yet when the disk is turned around again, the question mark has not moved- it is still stright up and down.
Of course, you can repeat this as many times as you'd like, always with a different time showing on one side, but the straight up and down question mark always showing on the other side.
HOW DOES THIS WORK??You'll have to get one to find out!
