Originally known as "Fast and Loose", CHAIN REACTION turns a centuries-old street swindle into a fun, interactive magic routine.

The metal chain is connected in one continuous loop.
Lay the metal chain on a table in a figure-eight, forming two loops.
Your spectator puts a finger into the loop they think will "hold fast" around their finger.
Pull the chain: if it catches around their finger, they win.
But if it comes loose and slips free, they lose.
Sounds like a 50-50 chance, right?
WRONG! You are totally in control!

Monticup takes the game even further.
After demonstrating how "easy" it is to win, he lets the spectator choose—and they lose.
Then the spectator puts fingers in both loops and tries to identify which one is loose.
Somehow, they lose again!
And at the end, even though the spectator himself can pull the chain, Monticup wins.

This swindle dates back at least to the 16th century (mentioned by William Shakespeare in Antony and Cleopatra).
It later became a staple of Victorian street hustlers and in Wild West saloons.
It is also the origin of the common saying "playing fast and loose," meaning to act in a deceitful, unreliable, or reckless manner.
