This is a terrific- and easy- effect to add to your card repertoire!
It's simple to perform, yet really makes an impact.

The routine goes like this:
Ask your spectator to randomly select a face down card.
Sandwich the face down card between a few face up cards you are holding in your hand.
The chosen card is sticking up past the other cards.
Hold your hand up so that the spectator can see (and remember) the face of his chosen card.
WITHOUT PUSHING THE CHOSEN CARD EVEN WITH THE REST OF THE CARDS, let the spectator remove his card.
Of course, he fully expects that the card in his hand is the chosen card- he has not taken his eyes off it!

But NO! He is holding a DIFFERENT CARD!
Where is his selected card??
It has ESCAPED!

Spread the cards that were in your hand so that the spectator can see that his card is NOT in your pile!

Spread all the rest of the deck of cards so that the spectator can see that his card is NOT with those cards either!

Finally, let the spectator look in the CARD BOX, which has been sitting off to the side during the entire routine.
When he opens the box- THERE IS HIS CHOSEN CARD!

This trick is shocking to the spectator!
It's a real stunner.
