Classic comedy prop!From the estate collection of a professional magician who barely used this set.
Though not politically correct today, this comedy prop has been around in one form or another since the early 1900s.
An old entry from a 70-year-old magic catalog reads:"A wide awake performer can get a lot of laughs with this gun. He warns the audience not to be alarmed at the loud report of the gun. He admits it goes off with a bang! The volunteer assistant who is to fire the gun expects the worst and when he pulls the trigger the surprise is unanimous. Rather than making the expected loud noise, the barrel opens to release a silk square with the word BANG printed on it!"
From the previous owner's notes, it appears that this prop dates from the late 1960s.The body part of the gun is made of thin aluminum, and the banner is cloth.More recent models have all-plastic bodies and a smaller banner.
CONDITION: very good.The mechanism works smoothly.There are some wear marks and scratches on the barrel.The entire gun measures about 5" long when closed.The banner measures about 5.75" long when open.
