John Booth was a
successful nightclub magician, well known for his debonair stage presence and his use of a wide variety of magic effects.
A prolific author, he
penned hundreds of articles on magic, as well as publishing Canada's
first magic magazine, Canadian Magician's Digest, in 1929. In
1931, he organized Canada's first magic convention.
In 1940, he left professional magic performance to become a Unitarian minister. He
eventually incorporated magic into his lectures, a practice popular today.
A legitimate reverend, John Booth conducted the funeral service for Eugene
Laurant.
Author of a
travel book, he also climbed the Himalayas as well as interviewed Albert Schweitzer.
