Part Native American,
Argus performed on the Lyceum circuit, mainly in the
1920s.
He was married to Emily
Reno (daughter of Ed
Reno), who performed with him onstage. At times, they were a part
of the Reno Funmakers with Ed and Emma Reno. They also performed
their own show as Gilbert and Burdene. He sometimes went by the name
of Arthur Argus Burden, the last name taken as a form of his wife's
true family name of Burdick.
Arthur and Emily's
children were also a part of the show. "Price Hari" was
little Harry Gilbert, and Auline Myra was billed as "Princess
Nonie". According to David Price's
book, Auline broke her father's heart when she died of typhoid
fever at age 20 in 1927.
