HAROLD ALBERTO
(1882-1964)
Born: Australia
Birthday: August 14
Real Name: Harold McAuliffe
Alberto was a comedy magician who was the true life "sad clown". He started his performing career in 1902, billed as "The Gay Deceiver". His famous running gag was the "More water!" Growing Plant routine. Moving to the United States in 1922, he became a technical advisor to Hollywood movie studios during the 1930's and 1940's. Sadly, he ended his own life in 1964 after a 20-year struggle with severe clinical depression.
